Hyaline

Hyaline cartilage is the glassy kind -the smooth translucent layer on the ends of your bones. The word just means glass-like. Anatomists got there first.

Hearts, lungs, vessels, the occasional spine. I spent years learning these structures from the inside, and I've never stopped thinking they were the best-designed things I was ever going to see. Backlit, they hold up.
